Ms. Mathews visit to St. Peter Apostle Primary School

23 June 2023

Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting St Peter Apostle Primary School to be interviewed for their ‘Golden Jubilee Celebration’ commemorating 50 years of service to the community. This is special moment to reflect on the ways in which St Peter’s has fulfilled its mission in providing a quality education, modelling moral and spiritual values, and ultimately preparing its students for life beyond the playground.

As I stepped through the familiar gates of my old primary school, a rush of memories flooded my mind. It was a surreal feeling to return to a place that had played such a significant role in shaping who I have become.

While speaking with the students, we discovered that despite the 15+ years between us there were still some similarities; although classrooms have advanced well beyond the chalk and blackboard that I had growing up, lunchtime will always be enjoyed more than mathematics.

I also had the opportunity to speak with my past teachers who once taught me. Their dedication and commitment to their students have still not wavered after all these years. As I continue my journey as an educator, I carried with me the memories of my old primary school, serving as a constant reminder of the power of education and the responsibility we have to shape the minds of future.

I’d like to extend a big thank you to my brilliant interviewers; Sasandhi, Jaxon, Sachee and Jasmin. Your bravery and enthusiasm left me smiling long after I left the school grounds. Thank you for offering me a unique opportunity to reflect on my own journey and allowing me to understand how things have changed since my own time as a student. I’m excited to see what the new generation of St Peter’s students bring to the community.
