As the exam period comes to an end, I want to congratulate our young people on their focus, hard work and commitment to their studies. Hopefully the past few weeks have provided them with the opportunity to consolidate their learning and reinforce their study skills.

“Are you in the same Science as me?”

“Who have you got for HPE?”

“What subjects are you doing?”

The mix of excitement and trepidation as we switch over from our 2023 school year to the commencement of our 2024 classes has been evident over the past few days. Students have eagerly compared timetables to see who is in their classes and which teachers they will have. The coming weeks present an opportunity to reflect on achievements and challenges of 2023 and set goals and plans for 2024. A fresh start full of lots of possibilities.

Headstart provides a foundation for the next school year, assisting with the transition from one year level to the next and better preparing students for all the challenges that next year will bring.

This evening, we have the honour of hosting reunions for the classes of 2003, 2013, and 2022. Reflecting on the changes witnessed over these years, it becomes evident that the evolution of education is a dynamic force. Technological advancements, pedagogical innovations and societal shifts have sculpted the educational landscape, moulding it into an environment where our students can thrive and adapt. We look forward to hearing of the achievements of our Alumni.

A couple of weeks ago I was excited to join 8 Silver for a few hours whilst they were engaging in the Shine Program at the Good Samaritan Campus. We visited Craiglands Dairy and I left the students as they were settling into their tents at Possum Ridge. These experiences are more than just adventures; they are journeys of self-discovery and bonding. How fortunate we are to have the Good Samaritan Campus and its dedicated team of teachers who extend student learning beyond the traditional classroom.

Next week, we will have the opportunity to celebrate student achievements at our “Day to Shine”. This day is a celebration of the unique brilliance that each student brings to our community. Our students are the stars in our constellation, each shining brightly in their own way. As William Shakespeare once mused, “It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.” May this day be a reminder of the limitless potential that resides within each of our students.

As students prepare to move into their 2024 classes, we encourage them to remember the words of St. Augustine:

‘Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.’

Trust in your abilities, seek guidance in prayer and embrace the new opportunities that the coming school year holds for each of you.
