2223 “Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule. The home is well suited for education in the virtues.” Catechism of the Catholic Church
“Parents and families are the first educators of their children.
Parents continue to influence their children’s learning and development during the school years and beyond. This is why it is important for parents and schools to work together in partnership.” Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools “Parents as Partners”
One of the strongest factors in positive academic and social emotional outcomes for young people is the family. Throughout their educational journey the partnership that exists between the family and the school is pivotal in how well our young people learn and how well they grow. For the Thomas Carr College Community, this includes offering our families support as their young person journeys towards adulthood.
One of the ways we do this is through the sharing of resources. Parenting support comes through our Family Partnerships Team – Dalia Akechak and Ez Deng; our Counselling Team offering the Tuning Into Teens program, which commenced this week; through the ongoing partnership between families and staff here at the College; and through online links and webinars. As such, we have connected with Dr. Justin Coulson and Happy Families and are able to offer our families access to a range of resources.
Our Community has a membership with Happy Families – an online resource for parent education. Through this we can share some terrific reading and links to online events to help us all navigate the teen years. As a part of our membership, you have access to free webinars that we will advertise via Operoo and here in The Beacon. A link to these resources will be shared with you via Operoo. Please save the password so you can access these resources whenever you would like to.
As a Catholic community, we are acutely aware that it is our joint responsibility and privilege with our families to guide our young people through their teen years so that they may flourish and become the people they have been called to be. Together we can support each other in this pursuit so that our young people, each and every one of them, will shine.
