From the Deputy Principal – Learning and Teaching

19 September 2024

As we approach the Year 12 trial examination period, I want to take a moment to reflect on the importance of effective exam preparation and offer some guidance to help ensure that our students are well-prepared for their upcoming trial exams.

The Year 12 Trial Exams run from 23 – 26 September, the first week of the coming school holidays.

To Our Students:
Exams are an opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and skills you have acquired throughout the year, and to receive valuable feedback before you final VCE exams later this year. To make the most of this time, consider the following strategies:

Create a Study Schedule: Break your study sessions into manageable chunks and allocate specific times each day for different subjects. Consistent, focused study periods are often more effective than last-minute cramming.

Stay Organised: Keep track of important dates, exam times, and any materials you might need. Organising your notes and resources will help you study more efficiently.

Practice Past Papers: Working through previous exam papers you can find on the VCAA website. This can give you a sense of the types of questions you might encounter and help you practice your time management.

Stay Healthy: Prioritise your wellbeing by getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, and taking breaks to relax and recharge. A healthy body contributes to a sharp mind.

Seek Support: If you find yourself struggling with certain topics or feeling overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to ask for help. Your teachers are here to support you.

To Our Parents and Caregivers:
Your role in supporting your child during this time is invaluable. Here are a few ways you can help:

Encourage a Balanced Routine: Promote a balanced study routine, emphasizing the importance of breaks and relaxation alongside academic work.

Provide a Supportive Environment: Ensure your child has a quiet, organized space to study. Your encouragement and understanding can significantly reduce their stress levels.

Discuss Wellbeing: Check in with your child about their stress levels and offer emotional support. Sometimes, a listening ear can make a big difference.

Celebrate Progress: Recognise and celebrate your child’s efforts and progress, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement can boost their confidence and motivation.

I would like to extend my best wishes to all Year 12 students as they prepare for their trial exams, and their ultimate VCE exams in Term 4. Your hard work and dedication are commendable, and I am confident that you will rise to the challenge. Remember that these exams are not just a test of your knowledge, but also an opportunity to showcase your resilience and determination.

Thank you all for your continued commitment and support. Together, we can make this exam period a successful and rewarding experience for everyone. They will shine!
