Languages Week

08 August 2024

Languages Week commenced on Monday 22 July with fun activities like karaoke, calligraphy and bocce, all of which were well attended by students. This year, we also had some new activities including making models of Indonesian transportation, Italian foosball and learning to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on a traditional Indonesian instrument, called an Angklung. Teachers oversaw these activities along with some Year 12 students, who also organised traditional Indonesian games.

Another new initiative this year, was the opportunity for students to enjoy cultural foods from around the globe. Croissants (France) and Lasagna (Italy) were real favourites and many students and staff asked if these items could stay on the Canteen menu!

Last Friday, 125 pre-packed Indonesian lunches were also delivered to the College by Ny. Ratna Kitchen. It was wonderful to be able to bring authentic and delicious Indonesian food to our community, the staff and students really enjoyed the wonderful flavours.

The success of Languages Week is dependent on th llinello, Cucu Juwita, Sarah Parcesepe, Xenia Shaw and Chong Zhou. I would also like to thank the Student Languages Week Committee for organising traditional music for recess and lunch, making posters, assisting with the distribution of lunches and for participating in the Staff Briefing Welcome Circle. It was important to have the students’ voices involved to ensure the week was both engaging and memorable. The students were Tegan O’Neill, Lydia Spagnolo, Susanna Tomelty, Saee Nangude, Kavreen Aulakh, Jevreah Aquino, Dexter Thoms, Ryan Tesoriero, Carl Chan, Neve Kwek, Caitlin Choo, Deborah Htoosaw, Avneet Sidhu and Ayeza Tanato.

The aim of Languages Week is to promote inclusivity and provide a chance for students to participate in language activities outside the classroom which reiterate the importance of learning a language, whilst having fun!

We are looking forward to doing it all again next year.
