On Thursday 19 May, Thomas Carr College competed in the very first SACCSS eSports competition. We had a full team of students in the Junior, Intermediate and Senior categories compete in a Rocket League round-robin. The competition consisted of 5 rounds with 4 matches taking place each round. The first team to 3 wins won the round. One match from each round was lucky enough to be streamed on Twitch with professional commentators calling the match. It was fantastic to see the collaboration, communication and sportsmanship demonstrated by all our teams as they versed the other teams from other schools.
Thomas Carr College made it into the Grand Final and after a nail-biting game, won the first-ever eSports Tournament! It was great to hear some of the amazing comments the commentators made during the match like ‘If you didn’t know this was a high school team playing, you couldn’t tell, they are playing so professionally!’ and ‘Look at the way they set each other up to score, we have some true team players here!’. Overall, it was such an incredible experience for the students to get a taste of the professional gaming and esports industry. A massive thank you to Mr Manitta for coaching this team and all the work that went on behind the scenes to get this team up and running. Congratulations Titans!
