Sayembara Lisan 2024

19 September 2024

Recently we had eight students from Year 8, 10 and 11 participate in the annual Indonesian speaking competition., Sayembara Lisan. This year we had amazing results, with six students reaching the finals and another five awarded a place.

Amy Elsby, came first in the Year 8 Beginning category on the topic of animals. She extended her presentation by adding topics she had learnt in class, such as prepositions and animals abilities, which made her presentation more engaging and fun. Amy had also been practicing diligently during and after her Indonesian classes with Bu Febrinaldi to ensure her pronunciation, tempo and sentences were making sense.

Deborah Htoosaw and Neve Kwek (Year 11), decided to discuss Indonesian people’s hobby which include Indonesian melodrama and kite flying. They chose these topics in particular, so she could compare the the similarities and differences between hobbies in Indonesia and Australia.

Overall, the students, teachers and the community were very pleased with the results. All the hard work, effort and time that our students put into preparing for the competition, was on show. It was obvious they enjoy speaking the Indonesian language, and will continue to pursue their Indonesian language studies in the future.
