Wyndham City Junior Schools Relay Carnival

General Information

The Wyndham City Junior Schools Relay Carnival will be held on 23 November2022 at Wyndham VU Sports complex, Gate 5 Hoppers Lane, Werribee.

The Relay Carnival will start at 10.00am and conclude at 12.30pm. Schools are encouraged to be at venue by 9.30am to ensure a prompt start.

The Junior Schools Relay Carnival is for years 7, 8 and 9 students and open to schools within the City of Wyndham only.

Schools can enter multiple teams per year level in each relay. Each team will need to be identified with “A, B, C” etc. For example; Wyndham City School, 4 X100m Female – Team A, Wyndham City School, 4 X100m Female – Team B.

Students must be in school/sport uniform.

Entry is free.

Entries close: Sunday 13 November 2022.

Photography and video

The club will be engaging the services of a photographer during the carnival to capture images for the sole purpose of promoting the club’s community engagement activities. A Photography and Video consent form is attached to seek your school’s consent. Please provide the number of students who do not wish to be photographed in the Relay Entry Form. The club will provide a ribbon which must be pinned to the students top for identification.

However, crowd shots that do not feature a particular individual, do not need a signed consent from each person.

The Club recognises the need to ensure the welfare and safety of all participating in athletics.

In accordance with Athletics Australia child protection policy and procedures, we will not permit photographs, video, or other images of children/young people to be taken without the consent of the individual or parent/guardian.

The Club will take all possible steps to ensure these images are used solely for the purposes they are intended. If you become aware that these images are being used inappropriately you must inform the Club Secretary immediately. (Refer to www.wyndhamtf.com.au)

Shuttle Relay

A shuttle relay is a relay race which is run back and forth over a straight course. Each participating team is divided in half, with team members positioned at each end of the “track”.

When used in a track & field setting, the runners will carry a relay baton.

Mixed Relays

A mixed relay will consist of 50 per cent female and 50 per cent male runners.

The 6 X 200 metre mixed year relay must consist of two runners from each year level and must be 50 per cent female and 50 per cent male.

Medley Relays

600 metre relay.

Runner 1 (100m) – This race will begin at the 200m start, with the first runner running 100m entirely in their lane.

Runner 2 (200m) – The second runner receives the baton in their designated lane, within the third 4×100 change over zone, (yellow marks), running part of their section (leg) in their designated lane. Once the athlete has entered the front straight and the designated markers (e.g., small cones), they may cut across to run on the inside lanes.

Runner 3 (100m) – The third runner commences at the 1500metres start point within the unlaned 4×200 change zone (blue marks). The athletes shall be placed on the track by the designated Official from inside to outside, in the order that the 2nd runner passes the finish line. Once placed in order by the competition officials, they may not change order.

Runner 4 (200m) – The final change over occurs at the 200m start within the unlaned 4×200 change zone (blue marks). The athletes shall be placed on the track by the designated Official from inside to outside, in the order that the 3rd runner received the baton. Once placed in order by the competition officials, they may not change order.

700 metre relay

Runner 1 (100m) – This race will begin at the 1500m start, with the first runner running 100m entirely in their lane.

Runner 2 (200m) – The second runner receives the baton in their designated lane, within the third 4×100 change over zone, (yellow marks), running their section (leg) in their designated lane.

Runner 3 (300m) – The third runner commences at the 400 metres start point receives the baton in their designated lane 4×200 change zone (blue marks). Once the athlete has entered the curve and the designated markers (e.g., small cones), they may cut across to run on the inside lanes.

Runner 4 (100m) – The final change over occurs at the 100m start within the unlaned 4×100 change zone (yellow marks). The athletes shall be placed on the track by the designated Official from inside to outside, in the order that the 3rd runner passing the 200m start line. Once placed in order by the competition officials, they may not change order.

1000 metre relay

Runner 1 (100m) ‐ The race begins at the 200m start, with the first runner running 100m entirely in their lane.

Runner 2 (300m) ‐ The second runner receives the baton in their designated lane, within the third 4×100 change over zone, (yellow marks), running part of their section (leg) in their designated lane. Once the athlete has entered the front straight and the designated markers (e.g., small cones), they may cut across to run on the inside lanes.

Runner 3 (200m) ‐ The third runner commences at the 200 metres start point within the unlaned 4×200 change zone (blue marks). The athletes shall be placed on the track, by the designated Official from inside to outside, in the order that the 2nd runner passes the finish line. Once placed in order by the competition officials, they may not change order.

Runner 4 (400m) ‐ The final change over occurs in the 4×400 change zone (same as the 800m runner in the 4 x Medley relay). Athletes shall be placed on the track by the designated official,

from inside to outside in the order that the team completes the second leg (same order from as the change between the 2nd and 3rd runner). Once placed in order by the competition officials, they may not change order.

Competition Rules

IAAF Rule 170 will apply for all relays.

All year categories must only include students who are registered by the school in that year.

Schools can change their running order or substitute an athlete on the day but must do so by completing a team sheet and handing to administration 20 minutes prior to the start of the race,

Should any school run an athlete in a different order to what was signed and submitted on their team sheet they will be disqualified from the race.

No athlete can compete in a lower year level than they are eligible. For e.g., year 8 athlete run in a year 7 event.

A Check-in point will be in place for all relay events. This will be located at the start of the 100m. All athletes must marshal at this point no later than 10 minutes prior to event start.

In a situation where there are more than eight (8) teams in a particular relay event, it will be conducted as a timed final. In other words, there will be no heats.

Points

Points will be awarded to the top eight teams in each relay as follows.

If there are eight or more teams, the team that comes 1st will receive 8 points and the team that finished 8th will receive 1 point.

If there are less than eight teams, for e.g., there are five teams, the teams that comes 1st will receive 5 points and the team finishing 5th will receive 1 point.

Awards

Medals will be awarded to the top three teams with the winning team of each relay receiving a replica baton.

An overall perpetual trophy will be awarded to the school that aggregates the highest number of points.

Venue Information

First Aid

St Johns Ambulance will be on site throughout the competition. They will be located at the designated First Aid area about halfway off the front straight of the track.

Administration

The relay carnival administration will be in the club room. The first room as you enter the facility.

Toilet facilities

There are sufficient toilet facilities available at the facility.

Warm-up area

Athletes can use the soccer pitch located behind the pavilion to warm up. There will no warm-up on the track.

Car Parking

Sufficient car and bus parking is available at the facility.

Looking after Wyndham VU Sports Complex

Park only in the designated parking bays/area.

Place rubbish and recycled items in the respective bins. Do not litter. Ensure your students use and leave the toilets in a respectable state.
